Maps view

The map view utilizes your entire PDA screen to show as large a map area as possible.
All Pocket PC screens are supported (screen orientation, VGA display, high DPI screen resolution …)
Different visual information can be present on the map.
If your current location is contained in the visualized map, the position marker, a cross icon or an arrow, is inserted on the map at your current coordinates.
If you are GPS disconnected mode, or not moving, the position marker is displayed as a cross. If you are navigating with a GPS, the arrow marker points in your direction of travel
Proximity information can be superimposed on maps to allow easy visual scanning of POIs that are in close proximity. The Preferences screen allows defining map's display preferences such as no POIs superimposed; only POIs specific types; POIs label or icons, etc.
The scale of the current map, indicated at the bottom right corner of the screen, represents the half of the screen's height.
TIP – In the GPS disconnected mode, the current position is set to the center of the current map. In the GPS connected mode, the map can be centered around the GPS position by activating the Centered GPS mode via the menu option Center→GPS
Scrolling maps
Maps can be larger than the screen, so scrolling and moving your maps around is very important.
Besides scrolling automatically as you move, maps can be scrolled using your finger or your stylus. Tap and drag a point on the map to drag the map around. Release the stylus when you've reached the position you would like to view and the map moves and redraws. Zooming into maps
Your current map can be smoothly zoomed in/out using the scroll hard button.
Maps are zoomed smoothly in extending/shrinking by two the current geographical data, except if there is a related map loaded on your device corresponding to the demanding scale. Map data extrapolation is limited to 4 times to avoid details distortion.
You can also select a map by its name. Select maps covering the current area by pointing the scale indicator. This action brings up the list of all preloaded maps available at different scale for the current area. Display the chosen map by clicking on its name.
Select any maps loaded on your device by applying the main menu option Map. Tip: Windows Mobile Navigation Pad actions:
Up Key: smoothly zoom in
Down key: smoothly zoom out
Left key: zoom in by displaying the next available map at a smaller scale
Right key: zoom out by displaying the next available map at a larger scale
Routing information panel

The Routing information panel, displayed on the upper left corner of the map, gives navigation indications from current position to any destination location.
These routing data include the heading to follow (represented by a red arrow) and total distance and estimated travel time between your current position and destination. If a GPS is connected, the time estimation to reach your destination is based on your current speed.
From the map, you can select destination points by pressing any location (including POI icons) and applying the Set To option from the context sensitive popup menu.
From the POIs list or POIs details screen, you can apply the menu option Center.

Maps availability
Tracker allows displaying two different types of maps in your PDA.
-
Either instantly downloads on-line geo-coded maps from a range of worldwide destinations anywhere, anytime.
-
Or simply, from home or on the move, choose a POI, or locate yourself on a map and in minutes, you get on-line plans to start your journey or, navigate with your own maps, by converting and calibrate gif raster maps using Visual Cartographer, our Map Manager companion tool.
Tracker supports Mercator map projections with WGS and CH193 datum, and Oblique Mercator on an 1841 Bessel ellipsoid map projection.
IMPORTANT - To operate within Tracker maps must be geo-coded. On-line maps are automatically calibrated, but for your own set of maps, you will need to specify longitude and latitude coordinates of each map within Visual Cartographer.
The description of the conversion and calibration of gif maps within Visual Cartographer are described in the Visual Cartographer user manual.
Requesting on-line maps

Connecting your Pocket PC to the Internet
Before requesting online maps, make sure that your PDA is able to connect to the Internet.
Cartography access is adapted for land modem, and wireless connection.
Tracker uses an Internet connection to download directly maps into your Pocket PC. This connection can be established by GPRS, by a GSM phone connection, via your computer Internet access.
Tip: In order to facilitate the configuration of your Pocket PC, we will recommend using Microsoft CMWsetup.exe software.
This assistant will assist you in configuring your Pocket PC to accept different options of connections. You will be guided for the set up of a modem connection, a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection, and a connection through cellular phone. If you do not use your PDA synchronized with your computer, we recommend entering as parameter for usage of Internet only, this option is valid if you have an ASDL, Ethernet or Wifi connection.
Maps downloads
Once the map request well specified and activated (see following sections), maps download will normally take several seconds, depending on the speed of your internet link, and take around 3mb of cache space. A count down message is displayed on the screen indicating the estimated download time left. Maps are automatically cached on external memory (Compact Flash, Memory Stick, SD Cards), if any on RAM otherwise, so you do not have to go online again to retrieve the maps.
